What happens on the night of the moon sighting?

On the evening of 29 Sha’ban (expected 7 February 2027), the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee meets after Maghrib to receive moon-sighting reports from across Pakistan. If the Ramadan moon is sighted, the first fast is the next day and Taraweeh prayers begin that same night. If it is not sighted, Sha’ban completes 30 days and Ramadan begins a day later. The same process repeats at the end of Ramadan for the Shawwal (Eid) moon.

When is Ramadan 2027?

Ramadan 2027, the month of Ramadan 1448 AH, is expected to begin on 8 or 9 February 2027 in Pakistan and to end with Eid al-Fitr expected on 9 or 10 March 2027. Because the Islamic calendar follows the moon, the exact dates are only confirmed by the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee the night before. If you are planning holidays or travel, allow for a one-day shift in either direction.
